Composite insulators have played a pivotal role in preventing large area power grid fouling accidents in China. In the past decade, the amount of UHV transmission lines has been growing rapidly, and the amount of composite insulators has far exceeded that of porcelain and glass insulators in most of the new UHV transmission lines in China, accounting for about 80% of the insulators used in the whole transmission lines, and even up to 85% or more in some lines.
